In a Women’s Health article, Dr. Devgan shares her thoughts on how to approach the topic of cosmetic procedures with your children.
The article discusses the complex parenting issue, questioning whether there is reconciliation between being honest with your kids and preventing excessive concern about appearances.
Many of Dr. Devgan’s patients keep their procedures from their kids because “it’s tricky to reconcile those messages of ‘You’re perfect the way you are’ with ‘Mommy wants to change this little thing.’”
While the article considers the possible benefits of being more candid with your kids, Dr. Devgan says, “The idea that people may not like the way they look and that one’s appearance can be changed medically—that’s completely off the table in my family right now. No one wants to steer a child in to self-scrutiny.”
