Breast augmentation is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the United States, as well as in my New York City private practice. Many breast implant patients live active lifestyles and partake in a variety of sports and activities, including spinning, yoga, running, weight-lifting, and swimming.
Activity restrictions after surgery vary from person to person and surgeon to surgeon. My general guidelines are to avoid strenuous activity and aggressive sports for at least 4 to 6 weeks. Immediately after surgery, you will be able to go for a walk and do routine activities of daily living such as going shopping or going to lunch. Starting at about 1 week after surgery, many women will be able to return to light activities such as longer walks and light use of an elliptical trainer. More strenuous activities than that depend on your healing progress as well as your plastic surgeon's recommendations.
