1. How has the coronavirus affected your life? How has it affected the lives of your family and friends?

To be honest with you at the beginning I really enjoyed being home with my family. I like to study with my kids, cook with my husband and be able to do things what you didn’t have time for before. Organize my closet and my paper works. However, it’s all been said I am ready to go back to my schedule. I miss work and truly miss my salon. I am super lucky having a fantastic team. I terribly miss them. Miss having lunch with them, have conversations with them and just be around them. I miss my clients as well. I have been in my business for over 12 years and some of the clients come to me since the first day, so we have a special bond. I miss talking and seeing them. The best feeling is when the clients come in with bad mood because their skin is not in a good shape, or they just don’t feel good and they leave happy and beautiful after my treatment. I miss seeing my friends, going out to restaurants, shopping and walking in the park.

2. How are you staying calm and sane during your quarantine?

I have been meditating for over 15 years, so meditation is part of my life. I think it’s ok to have a bad day, because not every day is going to be perfect, but we have to try make the best of it.  I decided when this all started, we will stick to our routine. Every morning when we wake up, I make our bed, open our windows to let the fresh air come into the house and I’ve been grateful for the new day. ️ Every night before I fall asleep I am very thankful what I accomplished in that day. I’m trying to teach my family to do the same. Definitely they're making good progress. I am so proud of them!

3. How has COVID-19 affected your job?

I took this extra time to do research and educate myself about herbs and ingredients for my future products. That I usually do in the middle of the night. I was never comfortable in front of the camera. I had to get use to do zoom meetings, video chats and classes. I become more social media active and even I made some videos.

4. How do you enjoy spending your time while in quarantine?

My family is in Europe. I talk to them almost every day, especially my parents. They are older and they have been in quarantine for weeks in a small apartment in the city. It is not that much fun for them. We read newspaper, cooking and baking with them what has been amazing.

Fun Facts:
I'm cooking: I always wanted to learn how to bake.  I have some friends who make amazing pastries and I’ve never been never good at it, till now. I think I’m almost up there with them. Watch out for Ildi's pastries! :)
I'm trying to: Paint!

Platinum Lip Plump wins Harper's Bazaar Anti-Aging Award

Harper’s Bazaar recently released the 2020 Anti-Aging Award winners and it comes to no surprise that the Platinum Lip Plump won in the makeup category for the Best Instant Lip Plumper. Aside from Harper’s Bazaar, the Platinum Lip Plump has been featured across Vogue, InStyle, Glamour, Allure, and more. This product is one of our best-sellers and will soon be available online at Sephora.

Within the makeup category is what Harper’s Bazaar claims to be “the best foolproof foundations, creaseless concealer, and color cosmetics that deliver instant anti-aging results.” Loss of volume is common as we get older, so the Platinum Lip Plump is a great way to add voluptuous volume without any filler. Not only does it add visible volumization, but it will also naturally tint your lips and keep them hydrated and nourished. Right after applying, you will feel a light tingle followed by plump lips 1-3 minutes after the initial application. What many people do not know is that once your lips are plump, they will stay plump for 1-2 hours and you can even apply your favorite shade of lipstick right on top! What causes the plumping you may wonder? Niacin, which is a form of vitamin B3, and is what safely and gently vasodilates the lip tissue.

According to Harper’s Bazaar, the Platinum Lip Plump is the “Best Instant Lip Plumper.” Further, “the next best thing to an actual lip injection appointment with prominent plastic surgeon Lara Devgan is a bottle of her Platinum Lip Plump. Swipe it on to noticeably boost your lip volume for a few hours. It also hydrates and nourishes like a luxury lip balm, so you can go ahead and apply your favorite lipstick right on top.” Don’t believe us? Try it for yourself! If you have always wanted more voluminous lips but do not want to spend the money for filler or wish to get injections, the Platinum Lip Plump is a great alternative. To purchase, click here. 1. How has the coronavirus affected your life? How has it affected the lives of your family and friends?

A lot of my work is done from home, but now my husband has set up a home office, and I've been homeschooling my son. I'm not going to lie, it isn't easy having them home ALL OF THE TIME, but normally we wouldn't be able to ever spend this time together between work and extracurricular activities that everyone has going on. My family has been fortunate enough to be healthy and safe during this time - however, my cousin is on the front lines battling COVID -19 at NYU Withrop, so we send out positive vibes daily that she stays safe, while thanking her for her heroism.

2. How are you staying calm and sane during your quarantine?

We are lucky to have a house on Long Island, near the ocean with a backyard, so being able to get outside for walks and fresh air has really been helpful in creating a soothing and calming mind set, along with working out and infusing meditation when I can. It hasn't been easy, but setting up a schedule for each of us has been super helpful in keeping some sort of sanity to our days.

3. How has COVID-19 affected your job?

As a celebrity stylist who relies on events to keep my business running, it's been hard. Everything from press tours to the MET Gala have been cancelled for the foreseeable future, so there is no work to be had. However, I'm constantly brainstorming creative ways to keep my fashion juices flowing; whether it be virtually detoxing my clients closets, to developing relationships for future partnerships and projects with new brands.

4. How do you enjoy spending your time while in quarantine?

I've always slacked in the "Self - Care" department, so I've been really conscientious about creating a routine, especially doing masks once a week. I'm completely obsessed with Devgan Scientific Beauty's Kinetic Mask. I've been seeing Dr. Devgan for about a year now, just to keep my skin in check - and really have become a committed fan to her products over the last month and half of being in quarantine.

5. How are you staying positive and hopeful for the future?

There were many special events we had to postpone because of the pandemic; my son's 7th birthday party, our family trip to Kenya, milestone birthdays and events..but those are all things we know will be, and have rescheduled and give us something to look forward to and be excited about in the future. I always say, "this too shall pass."

Fun Facts:

3 things getting that changed your life this week
1. Devgan Scientific Beauty Lash Boost (I literally have no eyelashes from getting extensions for the last 7 years, so excited to see my results)
2. My new cozy UGG "fuzette" slippers
3. "Fight Camp" at home boxing workouts
First place you're going after quarantine: Getting my eyebrows done!
I'm binge watching: Ozark
I'm reading: I finished "The Time Keeper" by Mitch Albom - so whatever @jennablackwell's book reviews tells me to read next!
I'm cooking: Hello Fresh - they truly have been a lifesaver in all of this
I'm trying to: Mediate more

Health Magazine talks to Dr. Devgan about the recent rash associated with COVID-19

Health Magazine talks to Dr. Devgan, New York-based board-certified plastic surgeon, about the correlation between a unique skin rash and COVID-19. With the recent spread of coronavirus across the United States, and New York City being the epicenter, there is much information that is being debuted every day that includes connections to the coronavirus.

What is truly amazing, as Dr. Devgan explains, is how “social media has allowed rapid and global information sharing among physicians in the fight against COVID-19. It is truly amazing how my colleagues from all over the world have come together to share treatment protocols, patient experiences, areas for improvement, and strategies for management to benefit all our communities.” As described in Health Magazine, one finding is by Randy Jacobs, MD, a California-based dermatologist. Jacobs has found that a mild rash, often referred to as transient livedo reticularis, is associated to people who have tested positive for COVID-19. This is interesting because Dr. Devgan explains how not all patients present “classic” textbook symptoms. Before this finding, someone could have a rash but not associate it with having coronavirus, but now thanks to social media, medical professionals are able to share their findings to help the greater good.

If you find yourself having fever-like symptoms or any abnormal skin rashes, it would be best to consult your doctor for help. If you must be in public, it is best to be at least six feet away from all other people and to wear protective gear, like a face mask. It is up to all of us to flatten the curve. Spotlight interview with Kate McLeod

1. How has the coronavirus affected your life? How has it affected the lives of your family and friends?

It's harder to imagine what part of life has been unaffected. I know I am not alone when I say that my day to day has completely changed - and change on such a scale is not easy but there have been some lovely, unexpected side effects. I am spending more time connecting with family and friends on zoom - I am probably seeing and speaking to my parents and to friends who live in different cities more than I ever would have under normal circumstances. And I love it. It has also been incredibly beneficial in my professional relationships. When you're working from home, you have to communicate. This situation forced some tough but amazing conversations that might not have happened otherwise.

2. How are you staying calm and sane during your quarantine?

Routine. Routine and ritual. Routines are so important - grounding, stabilizing - and it is hard when they are completely upended. It took awhile to establish a new working from home schedule - especially with an 8 month old! - but we're getting there. I wake up and feed Ollie by 7 and am on my yoga mat by 8 streaming @thedailyvinyasa 's online class. After yoga, I get washed and ready for work and then take a 30-40 min 'morning commute' - a walk around the neighborhood with Ollie strapped to my chest. Incorporating a morning and evening commute to cap off the ends of a 'work from home' day was a game changer. Other new routines I'll be holding onto: my husband and I listen to The Daily while we prepare eggs and coffee, we've started FaceTiming with family a few nights a week, and have been participating in virtual community events. It might sound cliché but true wellness to me is living mindfully; it is awareness. This is where ritual comes in. I have been incorporating ritual into my day to day life - and my favorite ritual is the Body Stone. Applying the Body Stone - the physical application of touching my skin - I drop in. The other major shift is that I have returned to cooking nightly meals. As we'll get into below, I began in the kitchen as a pastry chef and I love to cook. Feeding friends and loved ones has always brought me tremendous fulfillment but it is hard to find the time with all of life's other commitments. This forced me back into the kitchen and I'm grateful for that.

3. How has COVID-19 affected your job?

A little intro on me - I am the Founder & Formulator of Kate McLeod. And we make Body Stones: solid, cocoa butter based moisturizers that melt on contact in a way you truly have to feel to understand. This journey began when my sister in law took a bottle of lotion out of my hands and asked me if I knew what I was putting on my body. I didn't. I had never given it much thought. She handed me a chunk of cocoa butter and told me to go spend some time with myself. She also prompted me to explore what was actually inside many of the products I was purchasing. Once I jumped down that rabbit hole, there was no going back. Cocoa Butter, in its raw, natural state, has a very high melting point. In other words, it doesn't just glide right on to the human body. But it is a phenomenal - in my opinion, the best - moisturizer. It is deeply nourishing, soothing, and healing. I wanted to see if I could enhance the application process. A former pastry chef, I didn't know much about beauty, but I did know how to work with chocolate. I melted the cocoa butter down in a double boiler on my stove and started to play with it like I would a ganache. I added in my favorite base oils and eventually brought in essential oils for scent. For years I poured the mixture into jars and would scoop out chunks with a spoon after the shower. This quickly turned into a self care practice that fundamentally changed my life. When my husband and I were getting married, I wanted to share my most beloved ritual with my most beloved people. I knew no one else was going to dig it out of a jar so I tried pouring the mixture into my old silicone baking molds. I made canale, financiers, and madeleines - the first version of the Body Stone was born. It was then and remains today about sharing this self care practice. Taking a moment, an intentioned moment, to put your hands on your skin, to touch your body (there is no dispensing unit) is like putting on armor, a self-care body shield. It's magic. Confidence boosting, power-fueling magic. And that is what this is all about. I am so proud that we were able to give to @donatebeauty - hundreds of Mini Body Stones went to hospitals across the country to bring a moment of self care and dry skin relief to the heroes who truly need and deserve it at the moment.

4. How do you enjoy spending your time while in quarantine?

Working, cooking, and showing up for myself, for Justin (my husband) and Oliver (my little man!)

5. How are you staying positive and hopeful for the future?

I think the world is going to be indelibly changed after this - in a good way. If there is any blanket silver lining, I believe it is that we've all been reminded how truly connected we are. We are all in this together and we need to take care of each other. I see virtual communities forming - Daybreaker, Touchpoint - if you haven't checked out one of these virtual events, I can not recommend it strongly enough. The energy, the love - it's palpable, it comes right through the screen - and that gives me an incredible amount of hope. On a more personal note, I have definitely had a few stir crazy moments, but I'm a true cancer, the crab of the zodiac, and I love my shell, my 'nest.' The first week of quarantine it occured to me that my husband and I had never had a full week of consecutive dinners together. Now we're working at opposite ends of the dining room table and sharing a meal every night - and I love it. The situation demands communication. Our family unit, our extended family, our chosen family community - all are stronger, all are more bonded together because we have to speak to one another. We've been on our screens but not on instagram. Technology is being used for true connection - and that makes me very hopeful.

Fun Facts:

3 things that changed your life this week:
- A Sleep Stone
- A Rent the Runway delivery filled with fancy dresses for at home date nights- no one is renting - the selection has never been this good!
- Shearling-lined 'bean boots' - we are living upstate at the moment and they are all that I wear - they are definitely coming back to Brooklyn with me
First place you're going after quarantine: I would love a massage (I always bring a Body Stone - the CBD Stone is incredible.) Trust me - it ups it to a whole new level...
I'm binge watching: Revenge - I never saw it and I'm totally hooked.
I'm reading: Goldmining the Shadows and Women Who Run with the Wolves
I'm cooking: bread! so much bread - I feed Stefan, our starter (yes, we named him) every morning and he's turned out a few magical Rye Sourdough loaves!
I'm trying to: Move. It's so easy to sit behind the screen all day - I do a daily yoga class, have committed to a short morning and evening walk (aka my daily commute,) and try to get in a few sessions with The Class by TT every week.

Spotlight interview with Victoria Sampson

Scroll down to read the full interview with Victoria Sampson, cosmetic dentist based on Harley Street, London.

1. How has the coronavirus affected your life? How has it affected the lives of your family and friends?

COVID-19 has turned all our lives upside down. The things we used to take for granted like popping out for a coffee or catching up with a friend over lunch are things we now long for. I have never before rationed my food or thought about wearing a mask outdoors. I think it has been difficult for us all, especially given the fact we don’t know when this will end or how life will be afterwards. When I speak to family or friends about it they all share the same fears and concerns, hence why I started a series of live chats with a clinical psychologist on my Instagram to discuss mental health during this pandemic. It is important for us all to maintain our mental health and stay positive.

2. How are you staying calm and sane during your quarantine?

For a workaholic like me, not being able to work proved very difficult initially. I decided to create short-term, medium-term and long-term goals for this quarantine. Every day I create a checklist of things I want to achieve that day, including simple things like clearing out my desk, to more complex tasks like finishing a research paper. I have maintained a routine and made sure I workout every day (even if it means dancing in my living room!). I also make sure to stay connected with my family and friends, and also be available for my patients through my Instagram if they need me.

3. How has COVID-19 affected your job?

As a dentist, COVID-19 has meant that I am unable to work as normal. New research has emerged that dentistry is the highest risk for not only contracting the virus, but also spreading it. Therefore, we have all had to shut our doors and put down our drills. Unlike many jobs we cannot ‘work from home’ and are now only available for phone call consultations and remote prescribing of analgesia and antibiotics. The NHS has also asked for us to be on call for redeployment to the front line to help our medical colleagues. I am still waiting to hear when they will need me but until then I have been keeping myself busy answering any patient queries and also embarking on some exciting research to do with oral health and COVID-19.

4. How do you enjoy spending your time while in quarantine?

I have always been known for living life at 100 miles per hour. This is the first time since I can remember where I have taken time to relax and reconnect with myself. I love cooking so have been learning new recipes and trying new things out. A lot of my dental colleagues have also been kind enough to host webinars and live classes on Instagram to continue our professional development. I have been taking different classes every day and bought a bunch of books to learn about new techniques and dental procedures. I am aiming to create a lifestyle for myself now that I will be thankful of in the future when things get back to normal. It is important to also seperate the day from the evening and the weekday from the weekend. During the weekend I relax by painting and reading!

5. How are you staying positive and hopeful for the future?

After every moment of deep depression and/or recession there has been positivity and expansion. Whilst this is not a normal war, we are adopting war time efforts, collectively battling against a single enemy, coronavirus. After world war one, the roaring twenties ensued, after world war two, the USA experienced phenomenal economic growth, and a baby boom. During the latest recession in 2008-2010, Uber, Airbnb, Pinterest, WhatsApp Inc. and Venmo were all launched. I have no doubt that there will be a surge in creativity, development and positivity for us all once this is over. This has been a time where we have all been able to reflect, reprioritize and appreciate. I am very hopeful for the future and hope that our world will honor and appreciate the healthcare force a lot more after this.
