Achieving perfect symmetry in labiaplasty surgery

Labiaplasty is a popular aspect of my New York City private plastic surgery practice. The reasons women seek labiaplasty are varied and include:

  • dissatisfaction with the aesthetic appearance of the labia minora, clitoral hood, labia majora, perineum, or some combination of those
  • discomfort with sports or exercise
  • difficulty with hygiene
  • the frequent need to adjust the private parts
  • self-consciousness when in intimate situations or fitted clothing

Every labiaplasty I perform is uniquely tailored to each patient's specific concerns and one-of-a-kind anatomy. No two labiaplasty patients are the same, and no two operations are the same either.

I am well-versed in the full spectrum of labiaplasty repair techniques, include wedge excision, lazy-S excision, en bloc reduction of labia minora and clitoral hood, and others. The important aesthetic points for each operation include:

  • matching the pigment borders and lines so that the pink pigmentary line and beige/ brown pigmentary line are continous and aesthetic
  • ensuring no rippling or puckering of the incision borders
  • hiding scars as much as possible
  • achieving the best possible symmetry given a patient's anatomic starting point

The key to achieving the most perfect possible results for a labiaplasty surgery lies in planning, meticulous attention to detail, and stepwise refinement of excised specimens (as pictured above). In this era of gynecologists, general doctors, and high-volume "labiaplasty centers" performing these surgeries, it is important for women to understand that a board-certified plastic surgeon is trained in the delicate tissue handling, aesthetic principles, and surgical anatomy that give you ideal results.

3 approaches to chin augmentation

People rarely think about their chins, but chin projection and proportion are very important in facial aesthetics. Having a chin that is in harmony with your bone structure, jawline, nose, and face shape can mean the difference between having an attractive face and an ordinary one.

Chin augmentation is a general term that describes a range of procedures that includes injectable chin filler, chin implant, and osseous genioplasty. The images in this post are some examples of my actual patients who have undergone these different techniques.

Chin Filler

Injectable chin filler (typically with Juvederm, Voluma, Restylane, or Radiesse) is a minimally invasive, non-surgical procedure that takes about 5 minutes. Under sterile conditions, an FDA-approved product is injected into your menton (chin prominence). Results last 1-2 years, and chin projection and contour can be made very attractive.

Chin Implant

A chin implant is a soft solid silicone or Medpor device that is surgically placed via a tiny incision hidden under your chin crease or inside your mouth. It is typically done with light sedation ("twilight"), although it can be done under local anesthesia with a nerve block. Results are permanent and very attractive. In my opinion, this is the gold standard best technique for chin augmentation.

Osseous Genioplasty

Osseous genioplasty is a surgical technique for repositioning the bony prominence of the chin and holding it place with tiny titanium plates and screws. The incision is hidden inside the mouth, and results are permanent, although the recovery and healing process can be quite involved due to the pain of bony surgery.

My First Experiences With Latisse

By Erica, Dr. Devgan's Patient Coordinator

When trying to make a great first impression, one of the first things we are taught to do is make eye contact. Is it their size, color, shape, or is it those big beautiful lashes that outline them giving our eyes the ability to leave a lasting impression? For me, it has been an uphill battle trying to find ways to give my eyelashes that full, beautiful look. So, this week I began the journey of growing out my eyelashes using Latisse.

If you have looked into options for longer, more luscious eyelashes in the last seven years you have heard of the miracle eyelash grower, Latisse. Latisse was FDA approved in December of 2008 and has been on the market ever since. The active ingredient, bimatoprost, does not only help lengthen the lashes, but also helps thicken and darken them. Finally, a solution for my lacking eyelashes!

Latisse comes in a small eyedropper container and resembles water like solution. The drops do NOT go directly into your eye. Using a thin paintbrush wand supplied along with the drops, the solution is applied along the eyelashes of the upper lid only. If you are an eyeliner wearer, mimic the same pattern you would with eyeliner on just the upper lid. When you blink, your eyelashes will spread solution to the lower lid on their own. Always apply to a freshly cleaned, but dry eyelid. You can apply at night before bed or in the morning before any eye makeup is applied.

Aesthetically, eyelashes are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to beautiful eyes. There are a number of ways Dr. Devgan can help you play up the natural beauty and appearance of your eyes. Botox can address crows feet and wrinkles around the eyes. Filler can help with creases and dark circles around the eyes as well as tired tear troughs. More invasive procedures, such as a blepharoplasty (eye lift surgery), can help with sagging tissues and loose skin that have caused your eyes to age.

Read real reviews from my actual patients

There is no shortage of talented, well-educated, and well-credentialed plastic surgeons in New York City. If you see any doctor in this small group of the best plastic surgeons in New York, you are likely to do well and stay safe during surgery. How then, should you determine which plastic surgeon is right for you?

Do your homework. Make sure your plastic surgeon is board-certified. Check their educational background, medical licensure, and reputation. Meet them to see if you feel that your concerns are understood and your questions are answered. And importantly, read their reviews. The best way to determine what your experience with plastic surgery is likely to be like is to read about the experiences of others who have been in your position.

The following reviews of me are patient statements culled from doctor review website www.RateMDs.com. Each one has been independently verified by IP address, and each one corresponds to an actual recent patient of mine.

Labiaplasty in New York City-- real patients from my practice

My labiaplasty practice consistently draws patients from all over the world-- the Middle East, Los Angeles, Europe, New York, and everywhere in between. In recent weeks I have been interviewed by London's Guardian UK newspaper and Time Magazine about labiaplasty as an operation, the goals of surgery, and the techniques that I use to achieve superior results for my discerning patients.

The following images are actual patients of mine from my New York City practice. Each woman is different, and each labiaplasty I perform is different. Several of the patients pictured are revision patients, who first had their operations done by other doctors and came to me because they were unhappy with their results. Some of the women are shown just 6 days after surgery, and some are shown 6 weeks after surgery. Some of them are older, and some are younger.

All of them have excellent, durable, symmetrical, and natural looking results, without visible scars or obvious signs of surgery. This is the distinction that I provide patients who choose to come to my private practice, rather than going to a "labiaplasty center" or teaching hospital.
