Your first week after Eyelift (Blepharoplasty) Surgery

Blepharoplasty (eyelid rejuvenation for tired-looking eyes) is one of my favorite, signature operations. Pictured is an actual patient of mine immediately after (left) and 6 days after (right) a lower eyelid lift. This surgery removes puffy bags and excess skin under the eyes, giving the face a more refreshed and rejuvenated appearance.

Many patients ask me what to expect in terms of their recovery. Immediately after surgery (left) you will have stitches under your eyes (or in some cases hidden inside the pink part of your eyes). It is normal to have bruising and swelling, which peak around 2-3 days after surgery. By one week, you will look very good, although the scar is still immature, as you can see in this photo (right). By 2 weeks, the scar is almost gone, and after a month or more, the scar is almost invisible.

If you are thinking about eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty, I encourage you to learn more by coming to my New York City office for a consultation. We will discuss your medical and surgical history, perform a full examination of your eyes, make all necessary measurements, take photographs, and plan an operation that is customized to your exact desires and expectations. For me, this means a natural-looking procedure without obvious signs of surgery, an operation that retains the natural character and shape of your eyes, and a result that makes you look like the best version of yourself, not like someone else.

Getting lip injections (or lip augmentation with injectable filler) can either be subtle or dramatic. I am fortunate to have some of the most discerning women and men in the world as my patients, and my priority for each patient is to match their expectations. That means that I custom-tailor my lip augmentation approach to create anything from a subtle, "barely done" appearance to a voluptuous, sultry look.

These are some examples of recent lip augmentation patients in my New York City private practice. All patients were personally injected by me, with my expert injector technique: sterilization of the skin, FDA-approved products, facial analysis, measurement, marking, numbing cream, vibration pain relief, precision micro-droplet injection, antibiotic ointment, and ice.

Lip augmentation with Juvederm or Restylane typically takes a few minutes, and results last up to a year (typically 9-12 months, with the newest generation of products). I do everything possible to minimize pain, bruising, and swelling, although it is always wise to plan your injections 1-2 weeks before an important event.

When can you return to exercise after a breast augmentation?

Breast augmentation is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the United States, as well as in my New York City private practice. Many breast implant patients live active lifestyles and partake in a variety of sports and activities, including spinning, yoga, running, weight-lifting, and swimming.

Activity restrictions after surgery vary from person to person and surgeon to surgeon. My general guidelines are to avoid strenuous activity and aggressive sports for at least 4 to 6 weeks. Immediately after surgery, you will be able to go for a walk and do routine activities of daily living such as going shopping or going to lunch. Starting at about 1 week after surgery, many women will be able to return to light activities such as longer walks and light use of an elliptical trainer. More strenuous activities than that depend on your healing progress as well as your plastic surgeon's recommendations.

"For me [plastic surgery] is a serious academic discipline and there's real gravitas when it comes to giving people good outcomes," says Dr. Lara Devgan, a 37-year-old New York City based plastic surgeon. "For me a good post is one that explains that. Another set of posts that's been very popular on my account is whenever I post about my journey as a woman in a male dominated field or the fact that I have four young children as well as a full-time career as a busy plastic surgeon." She has been using Snapchat for a few months and gets several thousand views on her stories, which never feature snaps during surgery.
