After the first day of summer’s recent debut, we’re all excited for the beach visits, hiking trips, and music festivals summer has to offer. Dr. Devgan, featured on Violet’s Grey’s new article “Summer Body Goals”, shares the latest tips on how you can stay looking your best.

“The body is becoming the real tell-all of your age and overall health fitness level”, says Dr. Devgan. Although filler is typically understood to accentuate facial contours, Dr. Devgan uses Sculptra, a filler that stimulates collagen production, to accentuate the body’s contours. Dr. Devgan states that Sculptra is “the best non-surgical way to improve the contour, fullness, perkiness, and texture of the buttocks and hips.”

The beauty of the latest minimally invasive treatments, such as Sculptra, is the minimal downtime and lasting results. Dr. Devgan states, “There’s no incision, no anesthesia, no large, visible scar; the things that held people back in the previous era of a major surgical overhaul have changed a lot.” Read the full article here

Violet Grey recently published an article, featuring Dr. Lara Devgan, in which “new customizable, non-invasive “tweakments”” are discussed. As the landscape of beauty and cosmetic procedures continues to evolve, we are moving away from looking “overdone” and focusing more on the individual.

“We’ve redefined what beauty means,” says Dr. Laura Devgan, a plastic and reconstructive surgeon in New York City and founder of luxury skin care line Dr. Devgan Scientific Beauty. “It’s less about being handed down an archaic and ill-fitting beauty standard from the cover of a magazine and more of a feeling and being the best version of yourself.”

The article goes into detail about this innovative individualized approach of subtle tweaks that make you look great without looking overdone and gives examples on different areas of treatment.

Neuromodulators are one way to tweak in order to soften lines. Dr. Devgan says that different brands work similarly to relax the muscles that cause wrinkles.

Infusion microneedling is ideal for glassy smooth skin. By damaging the skin ever so slightly, we are allowing the topical treatments to be better absorbed. “We used to use a solid needle to make little pricks in the skin and slather stuff on top, hoping it seeped in,” Dr. Devgan explains. “Now we’re using hollow-bore needles and a sterile glass vial to micro-inject a customized cocktail of substances into the dermis.” The “cocktail” can include everything from hyaluronic acid to plump skin, PRP (platelet-rich plasma, which would require a quick blood draw) to rejuvenate, and neuromodulators like Botox to shrink pores (by contracting piloerector muscles at the base of hair follicles, Dr. Devgan explains). “We’re injecting these things 600 microns deep into the dermis and it creates this beautiful, glassy, perfect-looking skin,” she adds. “If you imagine that skin is a fabric like linen, the treatment makes it more tightly woven, like cotton.”

If you’ve ever wished you could wear a snapchat filter in real life, then the facial optimization filler treatment is for you. Dr. Devgan’s signature “facial optimization” involves making “making several millimeter-level changes at a time, whether it’s adding volume to tear troughs to minimize dark circles, non-surgical rhinoplasty, gently contouring cheekbones, lifting brows with Botox, or adding subtle volume to lips.” “It’s the principle of a Snapchat filter—if you make many tiny one millimeter changes, the entire face will look better but it’s hard to pinpoint why,” she explains. “When fillers first came on the market, there was a tendency to try to do the most possible with them, and that’s why we saw so many taut, shiny foreheads and puffy chipmunk cheeks. There’s been a return to discretion and classicism; anatomic characteristics should not be trend-driven the way fashion and makeup are.”

Dr. Devgan on How Botox Can Help with Summer Sweats

As the dog days of summer are quickly approaching, the last thing anyone wants are wet pits. Ruining new summery blouses and dresses with smelly odors and pit stains is definitely out of the question. Sometimes, no matter what you do- even if you aren’t doing strenuous activity- you just can’t avoid your armpits from pooling sweat (and that’s not the kind of pools you want in the summer, right?) . Thankfully, Family Circle released an article, “Stop the Sweat”, which outlines some ways to help beat your sweat (before you ruin your clothes!)

When is comes to armpits, and OTC deodorants just are not making the cut, it might be time to resort to other options, like Botox or Dysport. According to Dr. Lara Devgan, these injectables block sweat glands, which allows less odor and less wetness. Botox lasts about three months, which is the perfect amount of time to get you dry armpits all the way through Labor Day… just saying!

Want other options besides botox? This article also discusses other sweat-fighting options like antiperspirant-deodorant duos and clinical-strength wipes that can be prescribed by your dermatologist. And, since we all know that armpits aren’t the only thing that sweat in the summer, check out this publication for ideas on how to beat sweaty boobs and chafed thighs this summer.

Dr. Devgan featured in Refinery29 on Jeuveau, a New Injectable

Refinery29 recently published an article in which Jeuveau is discussed.

Jeuveau is “the first new neurotoxin approved for aesthetic usage in nearly a decade.” “Like Botox, Jeuveau has a molecular weight of 900 kDa, but they're produced in different facilities and are derived from different strains of the same toxin. (Botox, or onabotulinumtoxinA, is made by Allergan in Westport, Ireland; Jeuveau, or prabotulinumtoxinA, comes out of Seoul, South Korea.) The risks and potential side effects listed by the companies are also identical.” Jeuveau’s marketing strategy is what seems to be setting it apart from other neurotoxins.

Dr. Devgan states that "The most novel thing about Jeuveau is its unique marketing strategy — targeting younger millennials in a fresher way, with emojis, an app, diverse models, and lots of pink." With Botox already being wildly popular, she suspects that Jeuveau “is appealing to a whole new group of consumers that is aging into the aesthetic marketplace today." Despite anecdotal evidence that Jeuveau may last longer, Dr Devgan says “There has been no research that demonstrates a statistically significant difference in duration as compared to other neurotoxins."
