The purpose of this course is to gain an improved understanding of the metric basis of beauty, beauty theory, facial anatomy, advanced and expert injection techniques, optimizing the patient experience, and harnessing the power of traditional and social media as a practice development strategy.

This course will focus on facial anatomy for the injector, emergencies, complications, and management of undesirable outcomes, and the metric basis of facial beauty. Course material will focus on injection techniques related to: neurotoxins, deoxycholic acid, hyaluronic acid fillers, non-HA fillers, and on-label and off-label techniques used to improve the appearance of the undereyes, nose, lips, cheekbones, jawline, neck, profile, and overall facial appearance. While this course will discuss basic strategies for those who are just starting out, it will also cover expert injection techniques, such as tear trough augmentation, non-surgical rhinoplasty, and finesse use of injectables that will benefit advanced practitioners.

We will also cover social media, marketing, practice development strategies, and press, for practitioners interested in continued growth in those arenas.

Plump, pillowy lips have taken the beauty world by storm over the past year. Celebrities like Kylie Jenner have not only turned large lips into a trademark feature, but also created empires from the sale of lip products.

Although lip fillers have been around since the 1980s, lip injections have recently surged in popularity. They have increased 48% since 2000, which means that a lip injection procedure now occurs, on average, every 19 minutes.

Lip plumpers are a good option to create fuller lips but many popular products use ingredients such as capsicum (an ingredient found in chili peppers), cinnamon, or bee venom that purposely irritate the sensitive lip skin.  The irritation causes blood to rush to the skin surface resulting in a mild and temporary plumping of the lips due to transient swelling. This swelling can dry out the lips, cause allergic reactions, and reduce the plumper effectiveness with increased use.
