The American Medical Association (AMA) published an article on a rare cancer that is correlated with breast implants.  Dr. Devgan and her staff are hoping to enlighten everyone on the recent news regarding the links between breast implants and cancer.

ALCL, short for Anaplastic Large-Cell Lymphoma, is a rare form of lymphoma that is associated with long-term seromas after breast augmentation. The risk of getting ALCL is 1 in 30,000. The main presenting symptom is seroma or fluid accumulation in the breasts. This lymphoma is primarily associated with textured implants.

Dr. Devgan only uses smooth non-textured implants in her clinical practice, as a form of risk reduction.

It is recommended to perform routine breast examinations, see your medical doctor, and obtain imaging studies of your breasts to survey them after breast augmentation. Self-examinations, mammograms over 40 or sooner with a family history, MRIs every 3 years for silicone implants. If you notice a seroma or fluid bubble, mention it to your doctor.

Art of Surgery Series: Reconstructive

Dr. Devgan recently performed a reconstructive surgery for scar tissue caused by a severe accident. Reconstructive surgery is, typically, much more complicated as it takes additional preparation and time to fix a concern than to enhance a feature.

In this particular patient, Dr. Devgan had to carefully analyze the region of scar tissue needing to be extracted as well as areas of the body that needed analogous fat transfer to fill unwanted indentations left from the accident and following surgical procedures.

To get a look in the operating room during Dr. Devgan’s reconstructive surgery, take a moment to watch the video below.

Dr. Devgan always begins considering surgical procedures by having an initial patient consultation at the 969 Park Avenue office. During the consultation, she listens to the patient’s desired outcomes. Then, she proceeds to recommend options based on realistic possibilities as well as how much time and how many procedures may have to be done. Finally, before leaving the office, the patient’s budgetary concerns and surgery scheduling are completed.

In order to prepare for surgery, Dr. Devgan meticulously plans the surgery and looks over available information collected regarding patient history and preoperative photos. She also takes into consideration all notes regarding what the patient desires in order to ensure patient satisfaction at the end of reconstructive surgery.

With her expertise in both reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, Dr. Devgan is highly skilled to complete any form of reconstructive surgery while also taking into consideration aspects of beauty. If you are interested in discussing your particular reconstructive surgery needs, please call 212.452.2400 or email office@LaraDevganMD.com.

The first was the Platinum Vitamin C+ Luminous Night Serum. This enriched serum is one of Dr. Devgan’s must haves and is made for all types of skin. The second product McKittrick tried was the Platinum Glow Serum. This product is another of Dr. Devgan’s top four skincare regimen starters. It contains retinol to help decrease the look of fine lines and wrinkles, which McKittrick expressed she is beginning to be more concerned about. Lastly, Dr. Devgan advised McKittrick to utilize the Platinum Microdermabrasion. This particular product is in our October spotlight as its properties are wonderful for sloughing off the old and shining up the new. It is often a perfect fit for those utilizing the Platinum Triple Glow Anti-Aging Night Treatment or the Platinum Glow Serum. Both of which are known to have 6-8 weeks of skin peeling due to the active ingredients. Remember, this is all part of seeing fabulous results, but shedding skin may be trying and the Platinum Microdermabrasion is the sidekick to the superheroes of skin products.

Art-i-facts

There is an abundance of beauty that can be found all around New York City. Dr. Devgan’s new 969 Park Avenue office builds on the NYC ambiance with plentiful art on display as soon as guests step through the door.

Curated by Dr. Devgan, each piece has unique allure that captured her attention.

The latest addition to the office was designed by Nemo Jantzen, a multi-media artist from Holland. The gorgeous piece consists of nails and thread on white wood to create texture which when looked at from a distance becomes the portrait of a woman.

Another piece that is typically admired right as patients, customers, and visitors enter the office is the Andy Warhol Souper Dress. This beautiful 1966 piece is a classic icon in American art history. For those who do not know, Andy Warhol was known for his signature, and at the time revolutionary, techniques to create his artwork. He also was the designer of the Campbell's Soup can label, which is still used today. It is an incredible honor to have this piece in the office.

Once patients have begun their journey to the examination rooms, a beautiful mirror greats them. This artwork was designed by Maurizio Cattelan. The mirror allows the onlooker become a piece of art without stepping into an operating room or needing a syringe.

During a consultation, visitors can see Hong Sang-Sik's Breast II, which is an intriguing modern three dimensional piece that replicates the breast in an artistic manner. Also visible is the pink Jeff Koons Balloon Dog that sets happily on its own shelf.

Just as guests are saying their goodbyes to the office, two pieces catch their eyes. The first is the hanging piece above the receptionist area. Joel Hotchkiss's Starlet is a hanging mobile made of metal mesh and aluminum to create a contemporary depiction of a woman's face. The second is a lamp; however, it is not a typical light on a nightstand. This lamp was made to have two dimensional features and still light up the room.

There are still choices being made for additions to the 969 Park Avenue office collection. We hope to update you as soon as fresh artwork arrives.

We hope you enjoy a glimpse into Dr. Devgan's office art choices!
