All About Correctional Fillers

In general, fillers are traditionally thought of as a way to fill in wrinkles and create volume in order to look younger without any surgical procedures or other invasive options. Although this is the more popular use for fillers, many individuals use fillers for correctional reasons.

In Dr. Devgan’s practice, many patients come in seeking a non-invasive way to correct the shape and appearance of wrinkled areas due to scars or simply nonsymmetrical areas that can be corrected with a filler.

Many patients come in for naval corrections of the belly button. This is usually because of belly-button piercing scars that have not healed correctly, or scars that have been stretched out due to pregnancy. To correct any distortion of the belly button or scarring that occurs over time, Dr. Devgan uses a filler procedure to create volume for alignment and symmetry where the scarring is distorted. For these types of procedures, Dr. Devgan uses a long-active hyaluronic acid based injectable to correct the appearance of the umbilicus, give it an improved shape, and reduce the appearance of wrinkled skin in the area.

In other cases, fillers can be used in a multitude of ways. For example, fillers can be used to correct asymmetry in the lips, correction of dark circles and hollow under eyes, otherwise known as a tear trough augmentation. A non-surgical rhinoplasty is another surgical procedure that is known to correct anatomic feature of the nose area. There is a range of correctional ability with nose fillers, such as correcting a droopy bulbous nasal tip, straightening the nose bridge, giving a refined nose tip, filling a dorsal hump, and refining a rounded nasal tip. Non-surgical rhinoplasties are a great option for those who want to see a change in their appearance with minimal downtime without any invasive procedures, such as a surgical rhinoplasty. A non-surgical rhinoplasty is also preferred by patients who would like to undergo a surgical rhinoplasty but would like to see an example of the results before undergoing the actual surgical process.

Overall, fillers are a great way to get a rapid correction in many areas of the body without the invasiveness of any surgical procedure.

What is a Liquid Facelift? The New Modern Facelift Procedure

Thinner men and women often experience hollowing of the temples as they age (sometimes colloquially referred to as "peanut head"). This is due to fat loss of the upper third of the face at the temporal fat pads. Although it's not obvious to think about the temples as an aesthetically important area, a major characteristic of a youthful face is a soft, round curvature between the hairline and lateral orbital wall. Seeing that feature causes the brain to reflexly interpret a face as younger.

Filling the temporal hollows can improve contour and curvature of the face to give a look of youthfulness and plumpness. Dr. Devgan uses various fillers for this, such as Juvederm, Restylane, Voluma, Belotero, Radiesse, Sculptra, and others. Different fillers are used depending on the patient's unique anatomic characteristics.

The filling of the temporal hollows is a procedure that is a part of what is called a "liquid facelift." A liquid facelift is a combination of any of the following procedures such as temporal hollow fillers, cheekbone fillers, non-surgical rhinoplasty, nasolabial fold fillers, marionette line fillers and lip fillers.

Before performing a liquid facelift, Dr. Devgan performs detailed facial analysis and an in-person examination of each patient's face prior to offering any formal recommendations about which treatment approaches might be best for him her.

A liquid facelift can last months to years, and while it lacks the longevity of surgical procedures, it offers the benefits of short procedural time, no incisions, no anesthesia, and no downtime. It can be a good temporizing maneuver for those patients who are considering surgery at a future date, or for those who want to get a sense of the best case scenario without surgery.

The power of a modern liquid facelift can change facial aesthetics within a short period of time and although it does not last forever, it gives patients a good sense of what type of results they are looking for from surgery, or it could be a yearly maintenance if patients are more comfortable with this option.

Dr. Devgan is Featured in Harper's Bazaar

This week, Dr. Devgan was featured in an article in Harper's Bazaar. The article entitled, "How To Get Bigger Lips," features Dr. Devgan as an expert in plastic surgery and aesthetics.

The focus of the article was giving the readers advice and options on how to get a fuller, and more pouty-looking lips.

Many are aware that full, voluptuous lips are the new trend due to factors such as social media trends and celebrity inspirations. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, more than twenty-eight thousand lip augmentations were performed in the United States in 2016 and the number has since increased greatly.

Thankfully, there are new, innovative solutions in order to get a full, pouty look if you have smaller lips naturally.

In this article, Dr. Devgan states her specific recommendations for lip fillers, Dr. Devgan states, “All of the fillers I recommend for lips are based on hyaluronic acid (HA), which is the major component of the body's own collagen. " Dr. Devgan explains the concept of hyaluronic acid further; “This means that they have biologic characteristics that look and feel more natural. It also means that they are fully dissolvable, which is an excellent feature for patient safety.”

Certain fillers, such as Volbella, Juvederm, Restylane, and Belotero, are all based on the substance Hyaluronic Acid. Dr. Devgan explains the difference between these fillers and how she chooses which one to use depending on her patient's desired results. “My choice of fillers depends on a patient's unique anatomic characteristics, as well as their desired results, but roughly speaking, the ones I use most often are Volbella for a subtle result, Belotero for a moderate result, and Restylane Refyne for a full result."

Dr. Devgan's skin care line, Scientific Beauty, includes a Hyaluronic Serum, which is fast-absorbing and induces collagen-growth in the skin. Along with primarily using this product on the face, many use the Platinum Hyaluronic Acid on the lips as well. The combination of ingredients induces collagen growth in the area it is absorbed in, thus, using it on the lips helps achieve a light plumpness of the lips.

Dr. Devgan is featured in Mind Body Green Magazine and Santé Magazine

Dr. Devgan was featured in online health and wellness magazine, Mind Body Green, as well as French physical wellness magazine, Santé Magazine. In both articles, Dr. Devgan is a featured plastic surgeon, offering her opinion and expertise on breast augmentations and the effect they have on breast feeding.

Nearly 300,000 American women pursue their goal each year by undergoing breast augmentation (breast implant surgery, or breast enlargement). It is the most popular cosmetic surgical procedure in America. Most women who are considering the procedure are seeking the very best-- the most beautiful, natural, and feminine results that are achievable for their body, build, and frame. Breast implant surgery is one of Dr. Devgan's signature operations and one of her most-performed operations as well.

Dr. Devgan weighs in on the misconception that those who receive breast implants are no longer able to breast feed. Dr. Devgan states in Mind Body Green that, "breast implants have no effect on pregnancy or breastfeeding. If a woman with breast implants chooses to breastfeed, she simply does it the same way any other woman would breastfeed. This is true for both silicone and saline implants."

Dr. Devgan performs breast augmentation (breast enlargement, or breast implant surgery) with both saline and silicone implants. Incisions for breast implants are hidden either underneath the breast, around the areola, or in the armpit.  Implants are placed either under the muscle or under the breast. Dr. Devgan performs a signature rapid-recovery, no-touch technique. This keeps incision scars very minimal with a rapid recovery time. Dr. Devgan's no-touch technique also is the best way to avoid any chance of infection. Dr. Devgan's no-touch technique helps keep the implants clean and disinfected before entering the breast.

By one month after surgery, the vast majority of patients say they feel "back to normal." Bruising, discomfort and most swelling has disappeared. The breasts will still continue to "settle" into their final position over the course of the next few months, and a tiny bit of additional swelling will go away, but one month is when most women really feel normal again.
