Ask Me Anything with Dr. Lara Devgan: 3 Real Questions, Real Answers
In today’s AMA, I’m answering a few of the most common—and misunderstood—questions I receive in my practice. Let’s dive right in:
Q: What is the difference between a brow lift and a temporal brow reset?
A: There is no difference. This is purely a semantic distinction. “Temporal brow reset” is simply a newer label for the traditional lateral or temporal brow lift. I’m not a fan of trademarking names for standard surgical maneuvers—it can muddy the waters for patients and practitioners alike and often feels unnecessarily gimmicky. Let’s keep the language clear and consistent across the medical community.
Q: What is the best treatment for tightening the face and neck?
A: Surgery is the gold standard. A lower facelift and necklift remain the most effective way to truly lift and tighten these areas. While neuromodulators can provide a subtle tautness by relaxing specific muscles, heat-based treatments (like RF or ultrasound) have minimal efficacy and often denature facial proteins without giving the results most patients hope for. When it comes to tightening, there’s no substitute for surgical precision.
Q: Do you need general anesthesia for eyelid surgery?
A: Not necessarily. Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, can be performed safely under local anesthesia. That said, some patients (or surgeons) may prefer light sedation based on anatomical considerations or comfort levels. It's a flexible procedure when it comes to anesthesia, and we tailor it to the individual’s needs and preferences.
