Dr. Devgan featured in Allure Magazine article What Is the Lip Lift? Experts Explain the Plastic Surgery Procedure.

Lip lifts are one of Dr. Devgan's favorite operations to improve the beauty of the lower third of the face. The distance between the nose and the mouth (the philtrum) can become long and heavy due to age, time, and genetics. This is an elegant way to break the cycle of lip fillers and perk up the appearance of the face.

The ideal philtral length is 11 to 13 millimeters for women and 13 to 15 millimeters for men. Even if your philtral length is within the ideal range, "the space can expand one to three millimeters each decade," says Lara Devgan. 

A quick and easy way to asses the state of your own philtrum is to look in the mirror and slightly open your mouth: "On someone with a proportionate philtrum, a sliver of the upper incisors can be seen when lips are gently parted and the mouth is in repose," says Devgan. "As the philtrum drops, the top teeth become hidden behind a bulky upper lip."

BEFORE: This 48-year-old patient had been getting fillers in her lips, however felt they gave her the appearance of a projected upper lip. She desired a more natural looking fullness to her upper lip.
