What is a tummy tuck?

A tummy tuck (or abdominoplasty) is a procedure that removes excess skin and fat from the abdomen. It is frequently done in men and women who have experienced weight fluctuations and are left with extra tissue that won't go away on its own.

The tummy tuck is extremely common in women who have had one or more children, and it is sometimes referred to as part of a "mommy makeover." The tummy tuck can also be performed as a "body contouring" procedure in someone who has lost a significant amount of weight through diet, exercise, gastric bypass, gastric banding, or some combination of techniques for massive weight loss.

Scars from a tummy tuck are hidden entirely under your bathing suit or underwear line, allowing you to feel confident showing your body after the procedure. The tummy tuck can be combined with liposuction in some people, and this is sometimes referred to as "lipoabdominoplasty."

The tummy tuck is one of the most gratifying operations I perform, as it truly transforms people's lives. I have had a number of patients tell me that their abdominoplasty has allowed them to swim, go to the beach, shop in their favorite stores, date, rekindle their romantic relationships, and exercise-- activities that can be prohibitive when excess skin and fat gets in your way.

If you are thinking about a tummy tuck, liposuction, or lipoabdominoplasty, the first step is scheduling an in-person consultation. To do so, please call (212) 452-2400.

Reconstructive Surgery Before & Afters

Plastic surgery as a discipline encompasses both cosmetic surgery (to aesthetically improve something you dislike) and reconstructive surgery (to repair something that is injured or disfigured).

My practice encompasses the full breadth of complex reconstructive procedures of the face, breasts, body, and hands. Not only is reconstructive surgery a personal passion of mine, but I find it incredibly rewarding to help people during these much needed and often quite vulnerable moments.

Reconstructive surgery includes:

  • surgical repair of facial lacerations or cuts
  • surgical repair of animal bites, including dog and cat maulings
  • breast cancer reconstruction (after mastectomy or lumpectomy)
  • complex reconstructive surgery of the body, hands, and face after cancer or injury
  • surgical repair of facial fractures
    • broken noses or nasal fractures
    • broken jaws or mandible fractures
    • broken eye sockets or orbital fractures
    • broken cheekbones or zygomaticomaxillary complex fractures

A small sampling of recent reconstructive procedures photos is included below. Photos depict results within several weeks of the initial injury. I advise all patients to wait 6-12 months to allow full healing and scar remodelling. In nearly all cases, the result after 1 year will be nearly scarless in appearance.

Ask a real patient: how was your breast augmentation surgery?

Breast augmentation is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic procedures in America, and in my Manhattan private practice as well. Women who come in for breast implants start with a new patient consultation. During this appointment, I have the opportunity to personally meet and sit down with each patient who comes into my office.

We spend 45 minutes together, discussing your medical history, your goals and expectations for surgery, and your questions. I examine and measure your breasts and take confidential photographs that are used in surgical planning. Finally, we sit down together in my office and review before and after photos, different types of breast implants and surgical approaches, and discuss the sequence of events before and after surgery in great detail.

Before you go, you have the opportunity to see, feel, and "try on" different types and sizes of breast implants so that we, together, can decide on the best size for you. And of course, there is plenty of time for your questions.

Although the consultation is comprehensive, and I do my very best to individually tailor our conversation to your specific concerns, women are always most interested in what other women like themselves have to say. For this reason, all of my patients are invited to review me online, and these reviews are made public.

If you are considering breast implant surgery, please read our most recent review, from yesterday, from a patient who had breast augmentation one month ago. Dozens of other reviews are available at www.RateMDs.com, www.RealSelf.com, www.HealthGrades.com, and www.Vitals.com. Each of these sites has quality-control and identity-protection measures to independently verify the reviews submitted.

To schedule your consultation, please call (212) 452-2400 or email info@LaraDevganMD.com. All inquiries will be followed up within 12 hours.
