Beauty Is in the Details, forthcoming from HarperCollins, is the culmination of more than two decades spent studying beauty from the inside out: as a surgeon, scientist, artist, entrepreneur, and, above all, a student of human anatomy.

This book is about far more than plastic surgery. It is about why we find certain things beautiful, how our ideas of beauty are shaped by biology, anatomy, culture, memory, and time, and what more than 100,000 faces have taught me about identity, aging, vulnerability, and the extraordinary power of the smallest details.

Some of the stories are surgical. Some are scientific. Some are deeply personal. Together, they have changed the way I think about beauty, and about what it means to care for another person’s face.

I have spent much of my life saying that beauty is in the millimeters. Now I have the chance to tell the stories behind those details.
