Dr. Devgan was recently featured on the nationally recognized breast augmentation web community Eden Knows Implants. During her interview with site founder Jenny Eden, a woman who has herself had a breast augmentation and who now helps other women in her position, Dr. Devgan discussed her approach to beautiful, natural breast implants for patients in New York and Connecticut.

Plastic Surgeon Feature: Dr. Lara Devgan

Today I had the privilege of interviewing Dr. Lara Devgan who is based out of New York City and Greenwich, Connecticut. I love interviewing women in this field because they bring such a refreshing viewpoint to cosmetic surgery. Let’s dive in!
I don’t know about you, but I always like to hear about why surgeons chose the field of plastic surgery! Dr. Devgan made the decision to become a plastic surgeon because she loved the artistic component. She has a background in art (Classic Realism) and has shown her art in galleries in the past(!) Another thing that drew her to plastic surgery was that it’s such a diverse surgical field that involves operating on the entire body, and you also get to take care of people of all ages.
Dr. Devgan has an obvious passion for giving her breast augmentation patients the look they’re wanting, as well as the shortest recovery time possible. She expressed that results are patient driven, so it’s important to be open and honest about what your aesthetic goals are.
To reduce recovery time, she uses a minimal/no touch technique when placing the implant. She also uses a nerve block to relax the chest muscles and then injects a local anesthetic that lasts 8-10 hours. For those of us who have had a breast augmentation, we know that the first 24 hours are the hardest. With Dr. Devgan’s method, it gives her patients a much easier recovery during the first 24 hours, and 1/4 of her patients go back to work the very next day!
For women who are considering a breast augmentation, she says that it’s totally normal to have anxiety going into it. It shows that they’re aware it’s not like going to get a manicure. It’s surgery! Educating yourself and having a frank conversation with your plastic surgeon is very important so you’re both on the same page about what it is that you want. You don’t want to wake up in recovery with any surprises.
Also, take note of how responsive your surgeon is. Choose one that is willing to be involved, that listens, and takes the time to return your phone calls in a timely manner. It helps to bring pictures in to show your doctor what you’re wanting to look like too, because you’ll be asleep during the procedure when the size and implant is put into place.
Dr. Devgan wanted to encourage women to not feel bad or let anyone shame them into thinking what they’re doing is wrong. We shouldn’t feel sad to improve a part of our body that we’re unhappy with. The decision to have plastic surgery is a very personal one. It’s not uncommon for women to make changes to themselves like hair color, getting their nails done, etc. to reflect who we feel like we are… breast augmentations are an extension of just that!
As I’m sure you can tell, Dr. Devgan is an absolute gem. For my friends in the Greenwich area, please be sure to visit Dr. Devgan online at http://laradevganmd.com!
