Recently, there has been a great deal of attention paid to reality T.V. star, Kylie Jenner, and her beautiful, full lips. For those who are looking for a more sensuous pout like Kylie's, advances in cosmetics and plastic surgery have presented a number of practical solutions.
Lips owe their fullness to collagen, a cross-linked substance that makes tissues plump and youthful. As one ages, collagen bundles become less dense, tissue elasticity declines, and lips appear thinner. Fuller lips are associated with youthfulness, which is perhaps one reason why they are so coveted. Here are a few tips and tricks to get a fuller, more youthful set of lips:
Unfortunately, our lips tend to suffer chapping during the winter season. The best way to deal with chapped lips is to exfoliate them daily. This can be done using granulated sugar mixed with a squeeze of fresh lemon. Coarse sugar scrubs the lips, leaving them softer and devoid of flakes. Lemon, on the other hand, maintains the rose pink hue of pampered lips. Another strategy is using a toothbrush to gently remove flaky skin.
Moisturizing and Plumping
After exfoliating, moisturize your lips using lip balms containing methanol or camphor to temporarily plump your lips and keep them soft. Methanol and Camphor are known irritants and thus cause slight lip swelling (for about an hour), giving the appearance of fuller lips. A wax based lip balm may also be used to seal in moisture and prevent the greasy look caused by other types of balm. Wax based lip balms are also advantageous because they seal in moisture and allow you to apply lipstick or lip liner that retains a more natural look.

"Magic lining" is a makeup trick that fashionistas consider the icing on top of the beauiful lip cake. Lip liner can completely change the look of your lips. You can start by using a lip liner similar in color to your skin to create an extension of your skin where you can draw on your lips. You may also use your foundation at the outline of your lips for a similar effect. After that, draw a lip extension using a lip liner closer to the color of your lip. Finally, color in your lips using a lip liner rather than lipstick to reveal perfectly plumped lips.

Although all the information above has been strictly cosmetic, the most definitive way to enhance your lips is with an injected filler, such as Juvederm or Restylane. In a quick 10 minute procedure in your plastic surgeon's office, you can give yourself a beautiful, natural, plump lip that lasts for 3 to 6 months, even when you are completely make-up free.
Beauty has evolved with time, but so has our ability to take control of how we look. With these tips you can achieve the perfect plump lips and truly look as beautiful as you feel. So pucker up ladies, Valentine’s day is on the way.
