Actor Hugh Jackman recently noticed a freckle on his nose, and it turned out to be basal cell carcinoma-- an extremely common skin cancer that often requires surgical excision and reconstruction. He posted his news on Instagram.
"Deb [his wife] said to get the mark on my nose checked," wrote Jackman. "Boy, was she right! I had a basil cell carcinoma. Please don't be foolish like me. Get yourself checked. And USE sunscreen!!!"
Frequent skin checks are incredibly important, even if you are normally good about wearing sunscreen and keeping yourself covered outdoors. Skin cancers in cosmetically sensitive areas like the face benefit from evaluation and treatment by a qualified plastic and reconstructive surgeon.
