A new website called "Celebrity Close-Up" has rapidly risen to prominence for publishing macro focus close-up pictures of famous people. The site has gone viral and inspired an internet meme of extremely close up photographs.
The photos are visually appealing, in part because they reveal the inherent vulnerabilities and imperfections in all of us. With every fine line, pimple, pore, and makeup particle visible, it also feels a bit uncomfortable to train your eye directly on a photo for too long.
Perhaps it is the advent of high-definition television, digital cameras, and websites that is responsible for the huge upswing in skin treatments like peels, laser, Botox, fillers, and medical grade skin care. Despite the economic ups and downs of the past six years, these treatments have all been steadily rising in a dramatic fashion-- keeping pace with our increasingly HD world.
